It's been quite a while since we released anything on vinyl round here. There's been the occasional EP for other labels of course, but Million Dollar Disco 12" singles feel like a long time ago now.. It's good to be back! The first two releases in this new chapter see Al Kent doing what he does best; finding obscure disco music and flipping it to tease and please a dance-floor (although there are a couple of less obscure, though still very pleasing, elements in there too). "The First Floor EP" and "The Other Side EP" will be released on vinyl on September 20th.

PAJ DISCO MIX PTs 1&2

It all started in the fall of 1974... Pierre Gagnon and Jean Barbeau, two young DJs from Quebec, invested in a pair of Sony cassette decks and started experimenting with the pause buttons. Within a year the duo, guided by Pierre's drummer friend Allen Vallières who taught them musical theory, were creating primitive edits. Initially they were simply making one complete song from Parts 1 and 2 found on two sides of a 45. But as their timing improved and their imaginations wandered they began trying more complex chops; extending sections of songs, rearranging and repeating parts. One of their earliest edits made this way extended the intro to Esther Phillips "What A Difference A Day Makes" before dropping straight into the break. Sounds simple, but for its time was something of a revelation as they had no idea that DJs in New York were doing similar things on reel to reel recorders....

Million Dollar Disco are proud to bring you what we believe to be the very best of PAJ Disco Mix's edits, all created between 1976 and 1978, on two CD volumes or digital download. Links below:

DISCO DEMANDS PART FIVE

We almost forgot to post this here. And now it's almost too late. Disco Demands Part Five is out, and nearly gone. Ten super-rare, super-obscure vintage disco tracks, carefully and lovingly selected by Al Kent. We only have a few copies left. If you want one, you'd better be fast... click the pic above to listen and/or buy.

RAHAAN KILLED IT!!

We're so glad we put another party on at the Big Joint. There isn't a better venue in Glasgow. Fact. Especially when we add 650 balloons, a killer sound system, a vintage mixer and our mate Rahaan playing one of the best sets we've heard him play in a long time.
It's a good feeling to know that he enjoys our parties so much, though he's not the only DJ who does... We must be doing something right.
Can't wait for Sadar at the end of the month!

DIMITRI FROM PARIS MIX - ALMOST EXCLUSIVE!

Dimitri put together this mix to promote his forthcoming Philly album. Damn, it's good.

Al Kent will be playing records in a club in Berlin on March 20th. If you're from Berlin, and you like disco records, it's probably worth going.

MILLION DOLLAR DISCO EDITS COMING SOON ON ALL OUT WAR

Mr Solid State of Sheffield once heard me play one of these edits at his Socity bash. He got quite excited because he liked it a lot. So he eventually plucked up the courage to ask if he could put it out on his All Out War label as a follow up to Greg Wilson's Music Is Better release. I said yes.
